Readers and friends,

    On Thanksgiving, true libertarians celebrate the early failure and 
demise of socialism in colonial America, and the reaffirmation -- 
through the harshest tests reality could provide -- of individual 
freedom and private capitalism. 

    Unfortunately, those lessons, central and vital to all of our 
dreams, hopes, and aspirations, seem to need to be learned all over 
again from time to time.

    Ours is just such a time.

    So as we gather our families and friends about us and sit down at a 
table groaning with the products of the human mind set free (we're 
having turkey, being smoked as I write this by a wonderful local 
barbecue house), let us spare a thought for those less fortunate -- and 
they are regrettably many -- who have not yet learned this lesson, in 
the hope that someday,  perhaps with our help, they will.
